Hi!!! x) How do you make a inverse, converse, and contrapositive statement from this sentence. And also have a counter example if it is correct? Conditional statement: If it is a furlough friday, then we don't go to school.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean counter example if it is not correct....my badness....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

p -> q inverse: -p -> -q converse: q -> p contraP: -p -> -p

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i think inverse and converse should be the switched. the inverse of a function gets you back to the original right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for inverse: If it is a furlough friday, then we do not go to school?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

Break sentence into parts p = It is a furlough friday q = we don't go to school then do as amistre did to rewrite sentences

OpenStudy (amistre64):

inverse: If it is [not] a furlough friday, then we [do] go to school.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i guess logic just has to be backwards :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just to correct the above post: Statement: \(p \to q\) Contrapositive: \(\neg q \to \neg p\)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

..... yeah, that one. I am sooo gonna teach these fingers a lesson when I get home ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Converse: If we do not go to school, then it is not a furlough friday?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

If [we don't go to school] then [it is a furlough friday].

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Converse?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep, remember to keep your propositions intact
