I got lost after the professor introduced the z-axis as I'm not fond of it that much. Any solutions to learning how to plot points onto the z-axis. More specifically towards Linear Algebra. Thanks
Perhaps practice with some physical objects, like tooth picks held together at the ends by lumps of silly putty (or whatever you think would work). Start by building a simple square, then a cube, then let your imagination take over. Then, gradually switch to visualizing it, and then perhaps drawing it. Try to draw what you built, like a mini art class. I would argue that visualizing it in your mind is more important than being able to draw it. Practice - you'll come to like it more. :-)
Actually you can learn about z-axis right there you stand. You are in a room. The line between the floor and the wall at your left is the x-axis, the line between the floor and the wall at your front is the y axis. The point between the left and front wall is the start (0,0) of your room "coordinate" system! If you stand 3 feet away from the left wall and 3 feet away from the front wall you are on the point (3,3). Now, if you think about the vertival line between the left and the front wall, starting at that litttle corner point (0,0), diagonally of you, this is the z-axis!! So, if your height is e.g. 6 feet, then your head (specifically your hair) is at the point (3,3,6). 3 feet off the left wall (x-axis), 3 feet off the front wall (y-axis) and 6 feet off the floor (the z-axis, which is the line between the two walls). I hope this was a little helpful...
I would like to say that visualizing 3 dimensions in a 2 dimensional diagram (on the chalkboard) takes some practice, and even with practice, it can be confusing. So keep trying and don't worry so much it you can't clearly "see" the diagram.
