How do you write an inequality that shades in a 5-sided figure ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Get equations for the sides eg y=x and then put y>x or <x as appropriate.

thank you , but im a bit confused for the coordinates (8,8) , (7,10) , (9,12) , (11,10) , (9,8)

First sketch it...

done now all i need is how to write inequalities i, mot sure how to .

U have 2 points for each line, get the equation for each line using y-y1/x-x1 for the slope m and y= mx+b for the line using one of the points.

i get it ! but how does the greter than or less than for the equal sign at the end of the equation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, here is http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=y%3Ex (y>x) whereas y=x would be the line at the bottom of shaded portion. So according to your figure, u need to specify bounds on your x values and whether y is greater or less than them.

U can use Wolfram to test them out...
