OpenStudy (robby):

how do you subtract 1/3-1/12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find a common denominator then subtract the top number then simplify the remaining fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you get 4/12-1/12

OpenStudy (robby):

I got 1/36, so confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the common denominator is 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you change the first fraction to 4/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you work the top 4-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 3/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then you always simplify when you can so your answer is 1/4

OpenStudy (robby):

then reduce it to 1/4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (robby):

thanks! I'm gonna try another one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good I'm glad i could help.

OpenStudy (robby):

stuck again-- 1/9-1/11, is the common d. 99?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (robby):

now how do I get the numeraters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what ever you had to multiply the denominator by to get 99 you also have to multiply that to the numerator

OpenStudy (robby):

2/99

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (robby):

hey, great! I'm trying another one, thanks, thanks alot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My pleasure, you're getting better.

OpenStudy (robby):

7/8-5/12 is 3/4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did you get for a denominator?

OpenStudy (robby):

24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And what did you get for numerators?

OpenStudy (robby):

28 and 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's your fault, on the first fraction, 8 is the denominator to get 24 you have to multiply it by 3 so the numerator on the first fraction should be 21.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As for your second fraction your numerator was correct

OpenStudy (robby):

11/24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct.

OpenStudy (robby):

can I run a few more by ya? you have been such a good help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got plenty of time.

OpenStudy (robby):

5/6-1/7=29/42?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give me a second to work it out.

OpenStudy (robby):

k, thanks take all the time you need, this one hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are correct! Very Good.

OpenStudy (robby):

thanks a million and one! think i got it now. thanks again nice chatting with ya!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem, I'm Glad to help the future.
