what is the difference between the tourqe and the moment of the force ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

According to me, there are no difference between torque and moment of the force. In France we prefer moment of the force (moment d'une force). On wikipedia these two terms are the same :"Torque, moment or moment of force" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque)

They are the same. Generally, a force F, acting over a moment arm of length L, will produce a Torque T=FxL

OpenStudy (kira_yamato):

It seems to me that there are no differences, just a matter of names. They have the same units of Newton-meter [Nm] and can be calculated by \[\tau = Fd\], where the following holds: τ is the moment or torque about a pivot or point F is the force applied d is the PERPENDICULAR distance from the pivot to the line of action of the force

THEY ARE SAME
