If I am charged 6.5% tax on a 42$ purchase how would I find the amount of tax?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am assuming that the tax has already been paid on 425 purchase right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really sure I am sort of confused about this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right - you see the 425 may be price before tax or after

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if its the price after tax you can calculate it using algevra : x + 0.065 x = 42 if before then tax is 6.5 / 100 times 42

42 not 425
