Solve for x: |x−3|<7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7<x-3<7 -4<x<10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-4,10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dont you have to set it to 2 dfft eqations like x-3 less tahn 7 adn tehn x-3 is greater tahn -7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's exactly what raheen did, except he combined them, so it looks like one single inequality, but they are actually two inequalities, that is why you have the "less than" sign twice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see. sorry if i learn it one way i have a hard tiem seeing it a dfrt way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with a problem @pumpkin10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you solve for x in : 12x^2 = 3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12x² = 3x divide both sides by 3x 4x = 1 divide both sides by x x = 1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, i meant divide by 4 on the second part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg i cant beleive i didnt get taht..thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-7<x-3<7\]\[-4<x<10\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when raheen wrotre (-4,10) is taht teh solution?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-4, 10) is written in interval notation. If you did not learn that yet, it is fine to write: -4<x<10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see, its jsut anotehr way to write it...thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so either or is fine as an answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but it depends on what the instructions say, or what your teacher wants.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok tahnks.
