factor 16r2-8r+1

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

really?? ok i'll try a different way, a perfect square is defined as this (a-b)^2 = a^2 -2ab +b^2 so for it to be a perfect square, the 1st and last coefficients must be perfect squares and the middle number must be twice the product of their roots. 16 and 1 are perfect squares sqrt(16) = 4 sqrt(1) = 1 2*4*1 = 8, this matches the 8 in our expression -> 16r^2 -8r +1 = (4r-1)^2
