Has anyone been able to divide(through mitosis) Stem cells naturally outside the body?
not sure what you mean by "naturally" because if it is outside a body, then it is not natural. It would imply that it is done in a lab which is in fact artificial. Clarify?
Just a miss type remove the word naturally. Has anyone been able to divide(through mitosis) Stem cells outside the body?
It depends on the type of stem cell, I know off hand that embryonic stem cells can be maintained in culture. I.e. They will divide and/or differentiate into other cell types dependent on what factors you add to the culture medium
It HAS been done. However it is an extremely difficult thing to do and like most things, doesn't always turn out the way you want. Which means that out of every 100 stem cells scientists try to multiply, only 1 actually does. I found this article. Hope it helps. http://www.wi.mit.edu/news/archives/2005/rj_0505.html
