What is the correlation between an organism's insulating factor and the climate in which the organism lives?

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Well the bigger the difference between the temperature and the body temperature of the animal the more insulation it needs in order to keep its body temperature. So tropical places were the temperature is reasonably constant you wouldn't need much insulation while in deserts or arctic areas you would need lots of insulation to maintain body temperature.

i agree with wht trancenova said. and i hav heard that polar seas aquatic mammals like seals have a thick layer of fat below their skin that act as an insulator and reduces loss of body heat. Also some mammals frm colder climates hav shorter ears and limbs -allen's rule- to minimise heat loss. i hope this helps 'n sorry if you've heard.........

sorry that thick layer of fat is called blubber
