Is 1g of energy supposed to equal 1 kJ? Because my textbook states that if 1g of a substance produces an x amount of energy, it also produces an x amount of kJ. Is that true?

Errm...not too sure but if it helps at all it takes 4.2J or energy to burn 1g of water.
