* the whole thing by z
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8Z+2=10Z
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
8+2/z=10
8z+2=10z ... Multiply EVERY term by the LCD z to clear out the fraction
2 = 10z - 8z
2 = 2z
2/2 = z
1 = z
z = 1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8Z+2=10Z
-8Z -8Z
2=2Z
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Z=1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I multiplied EVERY term by the LCD z.
So I multiplied the first term 8 by z to get 8z
then I multiplied the second term 2/z by z to get 2
then I multiplied the third term 10 by z to get 10z
So we will go from 8+2/z = 10
to 8z + 2 = 10z
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i was told to take the whole number from both sides of the equation. (-8 from both sides of = sign)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that then gives me 2/z=2
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ok, now multiply both sides by z to get
2 = 2z
Now divide both sides by 2 to get
2/2 = z
1 = z
z = 1
so you get the same answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is this correct?... 3v-4=5 answer v=3

yep, you got it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
want to try another with fraction. u mind?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
check:
3v-4=5
3(3)-4=5
9-4=5
5=5 ... works
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
nope, go ahead
OpenStudy (anonymous):
z/5+10=13 ill let u no what crazy # i cum up with lol

z/5+10=13
z/5+10-10=13-10
z/5+0=3
z/5=3
(z/5)*5=3*5
z = 15
not sure if i did it the correct way (pretty sure i didnt) but i did get 15 :)
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
show me what you got
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
but if you got the right answer, then chances are you did it right (even if it didn't follow what I did)

z/5+10=13
-10 -10
z/5 3/1
z/5 x 1/3= z/15
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i tried to stack it but whin i post it changes it
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
hmm hard to read, but I do see a 15 in there...
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the issue I think is with the line that says
z/5 = 3/1
something goes wrong here
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thats takin 10 from both sides of =

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
no I meant after that
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh I see, you multiplied both sides by 1/3 to get z/15 = 1, not sure why
OpenStudy (anonymous):
after that i flip to z/5 x 1/3
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
better and quicker to just multiply both sides by 5 instead to get
z = 15
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this is whats confusing me...

OpenStudy (anonymous):
so z/5 x 5 = 5?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
(z/5) x 5 = 3 x 5
z = 15
OpenStudy (anonymous):
why do we even multiply by 5?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
because in z/5 = 3, the term z is divided by 5
so to isolate z and move that 5 to the other side, we multiply both sides by 5 (to "undo" dividing by 5)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont have this much trouble when its whole #s on both sides. the fraction is throwin me off

12/v=2. 6?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yep, v = 6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3c-6=21 c=9 because 3x9=27?

but as soon as i run into a fraction it seems forein
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i understand simple form like...v/5=7. v=35 because 7x5=35
OpenStudy (anonymous):
35/5=7
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yep, got that one too

i got 10
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
is this \[\Large \frac{90}{x+3}=12\] or is it \[\Large \frac{90}{x}+3=12\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
second one
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
then the answer is correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
its 10?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then wouldnt that be 10+3=12? how is that correct?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
90/x + 3 = 12
90/10 + 3 = 12
9 + 3 = 12
12 = 12
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i just got it!!!!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the answer is 10 because 10 goes into 90 9 times therefore 9=3=12. 10 is x because 90 is divided by 10

click on the "equation" button at the bottom of the text box

that allows you to enter math equations/formulas

not understandin how t works...just gonna stick to one thing at a time.
