FOR ALL FINANCE MAJORS: Im currently a freshman for BSBA Marketing, I have an average grade right now of 85% for College Algebra and Math is not my favorite subject but I'm okay at it. I want to switch to Financial Management, do you think my low-average capacity in Math will be a problem? THNANK YOU

The math involved with finance is not a lot more complicated than basic algebra. Like Marketing, Finance is more personal than say Accounting and unlike accounting, finance tends to be more economics oriented. A lot depends on how mathematically your school is. There are ways to make the math less complicated for people like yourself. Since you are a freshman, take a basic finance and economics course that requires mathematics and see how you do.Take a look at the basic finance books in the Finance section of the attached Free Business Textbooks and you will see what I mean.

It depends on how far you want to go with finance. If you want a career in finance, I disagree with antonw. You will need to take as much math as possible! I cannot stress that enough, at least through cal 2 but hopefully all the way through differential equations. This kind of stuff is critical for understanding the math behind financial equations. If you are worried about your mathematical ability, all I can tell you is to practice. Everyday. You will get better at it and with enough practice anyone can do the math involved in finance. Its not easy though, and it is much better that you begin now as opposed to waiting until you are out of school and trying to hit the job market. Any business will be looking for calculus and advanced math in applicants anyway in order to evaluate analytical skills so you really cant miss even if you later decide finance is not for you.

Thank you both so much for your answers. Well, I have decided to just stick to Marketing instead.
