In this sentence below, how would you improve the passage so it's properly cited. 1.Last summer, my family and I traveled to Chicago, which was quite different from the rural area I grew up in. We saw the dinosaur Sue at the Field Museum, and ate pizza at Gino's East.
I would use a semi-colon instead of a comma after Chicago. Perhaps say "We saw the dinosaur named Sue at the Field Museum" also.
that passage is fine - though in uk we would spell the seventh word 'travelled'.
thanks
A semicolon separates 2 independent clauses, which you don't have. The comma usage is correct. To merit a semicolon, you could write it like this... "Last summer, my family and I traveled to Chicago; it was quite different from the rural area I grew up in. For the second sentence, you could say, "We saw Sue the dinosaur at the Field Museum, and ate pizza at Gino's East.
