how to factor x3-x2-4x-4

OpenStudy (amistre64):

type in: wolframalpha.com then type in: factor (equation)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can start out with this by using the original equation: x^3-x^2-4x-4 Now we notice that the first 3 terms have x in them: So we can use the distributive property to factor out the x. x(x^2-x-4)-4 There are more compact forms for this equation, but I am assuming that you are in an algebra course, so this is probably all they are looking for. You can also type in factor(x^3-x^3-4x-4) into a TI-89 and you will get your original equation because the factored form uses complex numbers. Hope this helps. I have to wonder of plugging in your own website is ethical. Personally, I think it slaps in the face of the creators of this website. But i am not opposed to people seeking help wherever they may need it.

There is a difference. I have a website which has videos such as Khan Academy. These are designed to help people who have different learning styles. Also, it opens people up to meeting others who can help them too. It is like having a MySpace and Facebook account. I do not charge for any of my web based services, and find this to be a labor of love which helps others. So I personally believe this to be completely ethical and am sorry if I offended you.
