how is matter measured

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

with a scale

OpenStudy (zrsmith):

Matter is measured by its mass, which is typically interchanged with its weight (on earth only). However, in space it is measured by it volume and density.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

its measured using a special analytical balance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Matter is anything that has mass (inertia) and takes up space. So you can measure the mass of matter as well as its volume. Mass: Technically, mass is calculated by dividing the weight of an object by the gravitational acceleration acting on the object--Now that is a mouth full. ON EARTH: The general relationship between mass and weight used when you are not around physicists Geeks is: 454 g (mass) = 1 pound. Now you can use a balance --spring scale etc.... that is programed to record this conversion. The long and the short of it is to record mass in metric units--grams, kg, etc.....
