Why did colonists describe British taxes in them as taxation without representation"? What were the reasons that Britain saw fit to impose new tacos on the colonies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The british felt the colonies should compensate them for the protection the crown/british army provided them during the french and indian war

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The colonists felt they were being taxed with representation because no one in parliament was elected by the colonist, therefore they had no voice. After the French and Indian War the British had a pretty mean debt, they felt as if the colonies needed to repay them for their protection. Take in consideration that the colonists were paying 1/3 of the taxes that the English were paying.

|dw:1317176062272:dw| the colonist had representation but couldnt effectively enforce that due to the distance between them.

they were being heavily taxed and not being represented or elected to office or anything of that kind
