Anybody up for some calc 2 question on center of mass?
Find the center of mass of the triangular region in the first quadrent between the circle x^2+y^2 equals 9. And the lines x=-3 and x=3
Typo: between the lines is x=3 and y=3
Hint use geometry to find the area
the area of the required region wil be the area of the square formed by the lines x=3 and y=3 (Minus) the area of the circle in the first quadrant...A\[A _{sq}=3^{2}\] wheareas \[A _{circle}=\Pi3^{2}/4\] then subtract these values
but it is a triangluar region, not a square
just draw the figure...you will understand my solution :-)
could you help me draw this, i am having trouble picturing it
I know the circle, but this triangular region, how to i draw it
|dw:1317202910554:dw|
oh, that is a square
the shaded regioon is the required area...which is a subtraction of the area of the circle in the first quadrant and the "square formed by our two lines
so, then to get the mass, i just multiply that area buy delta. Okay thank you for the help
cheers man
I subtracted both values and got: (36-9pi)/(4)
put the value of pi as 3.14 then
i get 1.935
