Determine the component form for the 2-space vector W if it is known that its angle from the positive x-axis is 5pi/4 and its length is 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11sin(5pi/4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 11/sqrt(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you able to explain the methodology?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what sine is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sine, the ratio between y component and r, the length..take the sin of the angle to get that ratio (y/r), multiply by r (11) to get the y component, a negative 11/sqrt2 (I know this because 5pi/4 is pi/4=45 degrees below the x axis on the left side, and 45 degree triangles sides are in the ratio of sqrt2:sqrt2:2)
