well my best advice is read the book. if it says permeable membrane its probly talking about a blood cell. in which the water must diffuse into or out of the cell depending on the solution its in. either hypotonic, isotonic, or hypertonic

OOO. No the solute will travel down the concentration gradient.. that is to the lower concentration. The amount of water is equal in each solution so no it will not cross the membrane unless there is a decrease in osmotic pressure, or if the membrane is impermeable to the solute.

because the volume is equal on both sides but the concentration of solution is not, the concentration diffuses toward the side of lower concentration until the concetrations are equal. with question 2 its the same thing. solute 1 circle will difuse across until both sides are equal. and solute 2 square will do the same.

the water level still doesnt change, so water doesnt move across membrane. Two squares diffuse left. and however many circles move to the right until the number of circles are even on both sides
