NEED HELP WITH MATH :( Pleaseee..

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Post a question and people will do their best.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! :) A student invested 90% of her savings in the stock market. If she invested $3150, what are her total savings?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when i need help with math, I go to a quiet place and sing lady gaga

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

$50.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol I don't really enjoy her music... Lol :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm getting a feeling I am not going to get help on this website....

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Let T be her total savings. Then 90% of T is $3150 That is: 0.9T = 3150 So now you need to solve for T

OpenStudy (amistre64):

percents are a measure of divisions by 100 Amount/ 100 = 1%, and we want 90 of them 90 times Amount/100 is equal to 3150 9A/10 = 315 9A = 3150 A = 3150/9

OpenStudy (jamesj):

@amistre: you've made a mistake

OpenStudy (amistre64):

..help is a subjective term

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i prolly did, but i blame me fingers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks James :)

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Sure thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would it be 0.9 though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a new question! You boys willing to help? :))

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Because if you have 100% of T that would be T If you have 50% of T that is half of T or T/2 or 0.5T If you have x% of T, that is \[\frac{x}{100} T\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i see my error; i simplified and divided by 10 in the same thought ..... bummer

OpenStudy (jamesj):

So in this case, 90% of T is \[\frac{90}{100}T = \frac{9}{10}T = 0.9T\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm .... im to old to be a "boy" any more so that rules me out

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Post a new question over on the left of your screen and people will chime in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two planes are 7700 miles apart, and their speeds differ by 300 mph. They travel toward each other and meet in 7 hours. Find the speed of the slower plane.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

But before we leave this question, can you solve 0.9T = 3150 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I got 3500? :)

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Right.
