Do u Know What Does Cells Mean ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a basic structural and functional unit of lyf and yea there r different types of cells in our body eg-.the red blood cells which carry oxygen to ur body.the white blood cells which basically help in fighting against diseases(they r the germ invaders),intestinal cells that release certain chemicals which help them in absorbing nutrients 4rm the food,nerve cells ,create electrical impulses ,tat gives information to ur body(well,the thinking process,regulation of heartbeat and the other stuffs),actually enabling life itself!

The cell is the functional basic unit of life. It was discovered by Robert Hooke and is the functional unit of all known living organisms. It is the smallest unit of life that is classified as a living thing, and is often called the building block of life. Some organisms, such as most bacteria, are unicellular (consist of a single cell). Other organisms, such as humans, are multicellular. Humans have about 100 trillion or 1014 cells;

A cell is the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism. All living organisms are made up of cells. There are unicellular as well as multicellular organisms. Cells make up tissues and tissues make up organs which in turn make up organisms. Robert Hooke was the first scientist to observe a dead cell. He observed some cork cells and coined the term 'cell'.

Cell Definition noun (Science: Cell Biology) 1. The structural, functional and biological unit of all organisms. 2. An autonomous self-replicating unit that may exist as functional independent unit of life (as in the case of unicellular organism), or as sub-unit in a multicellular organism (such as in plants and animals) that is specialized into carrying out particular functions towards the cause of the organism as a whole. 3. A membrane bound structure containing biomolecules, such as nucleic acids, proteins, and polysaccharides. Supplement There are two distinct types of cells: prokaryotic cells (e.g. bacterial cells) and eukaryotic cells (e.g. plant or animal cell). The main difference between the two is a well-defined nucleus surrounded by a membranous nuclear envelope present only in eukaryotic cells. Despite this difference they share a number of common features: the genetic information is stored in genes, proteins serve as their main structural material, ribosomes are used to synthesize proteins, adenosine triphosphate is the main source of metabolic energy to sustain various cellular processes, and a cell membrane that controls the flow of substances into and out of the cell. Word origin: From Latin cella. Related forms: cellular (adjective) See also: cell biology, cytology, stem cell.
