what is an example for rhetoric and the significance of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rhetoric is the art of persuasion in writing in respect to aspects such as diction, syntax, audience, purpose and background. All great speeches use rhetoric with one of the most famous being Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech". In that speech Luther uses a lot of pathos laden appeals, especially toward the end when he talks about all the injustice he has seen done to black people, which is meant to elicit an emotional response from the audience, to make them see the error of their ways and to accept different races as their equals.
