OpenStudy (mandii):

4x^2=12x+40

OpenStudy (kira_yamato):

\[4x^2=12x+40\] \[x^2-3x-10=0\] \[(x-5)(x+2)=0\] \[x=5,-2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify by dividing 4 x^2 - 3x - 10 = 0 now factor - kira has done it aleady

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set the equation to zero 4x^2 -12x -40 = 0 Divide by 4 x^2 - 3x - 10 = 0 (x - 5)(x+2) = 0 x= 5, -2

OpenStudy (mandii):

but how did you get x^2 - 3x - 10 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after you set the equation to zero, you can factor out a 4.
