How do I solve: 6x-3(x+1) greater than x+5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I am not quite sure on step by step but if you look at: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=6x-3%28x%2B1%29+%3E+x%2B5 there is alternate forms and graphs to help you see and understand it. (:

I got 6x^2 + 3x - 3 greater than x+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I have to simplify it further..

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

\[6x-3(x+1) = 6x-3x-3 = 3x-3\]so you get\[3x-3 > x+5\]\[2x > 8\]\[x > 4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it would have 6x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no square term here. asnaseer has it
