Can someone help explain to me how linear equations work? Can someone help explain to me how linear equations work? @Mathematics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean how it works?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you start at one point and travel in a straight line to another point

A linear equation such as y = 3x + 5 can be graphed on an xy coordinate plane. The best way to see it graphed is to use a graphing calculator. Or, you can plot it by hand. You'll need graphing paper in order to do that.

hero (hero):

Do you know how to plot an xy coordinate plane?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do thanks.

hero (hero):

Good. Once you do that, use the equation y = 3x + 5 to plot points on it. You only need to plot two points on it: The x-intercept and the y-intercept. Once you've done that, you can draw a line through those points. The line you draw will be a geometric representation of the linear equation
