what is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aerobic requires oxygen, anaerobic does not.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

EX: aerobic is running. Anaerobic is golf.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aerobic respiration..?anaerobic respiration?

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

um...Like aerobic is when you used oxygen to generate ATP, and anaerobic doesn't use oxygen. It does use the electron transfer chain. here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaerobic_respiration

OpenStudy (trancenova):

So just think "Aerobic".. sounds kinda like air, so it occurs where air or rather oxygen is available (can help you remember it). Anaerobic occurs where there is no oxygen available so the organism has to respire in a different way without any oxygen. Aerobic is with oxygen.

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

This is slightly related...not really. I heard somewhere that a photosynthetic organism, if left in an 100% oxygen environment, will eventually begin to use cellular respiration (or something like it) and take in oxygen and release CO2...is this true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow thanks great answers!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeaa i think thats true..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whaaat?
