Hello guys, here is a tough question for you: which species is the closest living relative of the dinosaur? I bet none of you can answer that. And no cheating, answer on yourself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Probably the chicken.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, take another try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shall I give the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: Very rare species, found only in New Zealand. NOT a bird.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer: The tuatara. Looks like a typical lizard, but is not one. In fact, it is a completely different species. Only living species of the separate group of reptiles known as Rhynchocephalia.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not the chicken? :( but the chickens behave most like dinosaurs, with their fearsome roosting, appearance, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These reptiles lived alongside the dinosaurs millions of years ago. The rest of the species of the group Rhynchocephalia became extinct along with the dinosaurs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

At least, that's what I read in my encyclopedia, thought I'd share it with you.

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Damn I was going to say crocodile! Cool question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks.
