can someone please help me!!! a map has a scale of 1 in.:38 ft use the givin map distance 5.5 inches to find the actaul dsitance?!?!?!5:11 pmDelete

OpenStudy (anonymous):

209 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank youh (: but how did u get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1*5.5 = 38*5.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks xDD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but we are supose to be using porportions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you use proportions 1:38::5.5:x x = 38*5.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

= 209 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but wouldnt it be i over 5.5 and x over 38 and then mutltply by the inverse which is 1 over 5.5 and yhen u deivd 38 by 5.5 and u get X=6.90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 over 5.5*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ugh this is so friigen confuing!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 in:38ft , 5.5in:x ft They are in direct proportion. So 1:38 ::5.5:x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then u would divide 38 by 5.5 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Direct proportion means if increase in one quantity results in increase of other quantity also. And their ratio is constant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

product of means = product of extremes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lord u better be right about this cause i am writing ur answer down and we got a test so ur sure ur right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I am sure I am right. Anyway confirm it with your teacher or any one else..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay i wil write tomorrow and see if you got it right which i am pretty sure u do but yea thanks agian (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you give a medal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
