please help me with exothermic and endothermic reactions!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exothermic= gives off heat Endothermic= takes in heat so exothermic reactions if "touched" will feel warm and endothermic will feel cold

thanks i get that but i get confused as to why is it that the process of freezing ice is exothermic?

OpenStudy (sriram):

process of freezing water is to cool the water . hence what we are actually doing is to remove the heat from water hence it is exothermic.

1 trick for u mostly formation reactions are exothermic and mostly dissociation reactions are endothermic hope it helps u too identify reactions there are some xception of endothermic- N2 +O2------->2NO/N2O/NO2 and also the formation of OF2 exothermic -NO2/N2O/NO2---------->N2+O2

there may be several xcptns but these xcptns are commonly used..

thankyou!!!!
