Subtract. 8 3/22 and 5 7/11??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you have to make 3/22 and 7/11 have the same denominator so you multiply 7/11 by two (both top and bottom) and you get 14/22 now you take 8 3/22 -5 14/22 --------- but for the / you would get negative so you have to take 8 and make it 7 and make the 3, 25/22 so now 7 25/22 -5 14/22 so 7-3 is 4 and 25-14 is 9 and you leave the bottom the same so you get 4 and 9/22. hope that helped!

Convert 8 and 3/22 to an improper fraction, which would be 179/22, and convert 5 and 7/11 to an improper fraction which would be 62/11, to subtract we want to same denominators so you need to multiply 62/11 by 2/2 to get 124/22. Subtract 179/22 and 124/22 to get 55/22, reduce the whole thing to get 5/2 which would be 2 1/2 as a mixed number.

6 6/ 11 5 18/22 would be the same right multiply to make the denominators the same?

wait umm i did it wrong sorry willcarey did it right... make it an improper fraction... sorry. i did this a few years ago so i dont remember. but try the webside myalgebra.com if you want answers. btw you have to put mixed numbers in as the number and then plus the fraction. ex- (8+3/22)-(5+14/22)
