When and how do you use Roman Numerals when writing a chemical formula? @Chemistry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when it is specified, IUPAC makes it clarified that it mostly happens with metals like Fe(III) or Fe(II). It mostly is used when writing transitional metals. When writing a chemical formula like Fe(II)Chloride it would use a criss cross rule that the '2' would be put on the cl. so.... \[Fe (II)+Cl \rightarrow FeCl _{2}\]

hope that is clear enough.

Thankyou!:)
