OpenStudy (anonymous):

what other cells structures does mitochondria work with?

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

Well, you can use the analogy of a car to the cell. If the cell is the car, then the mitochondria is the engine which provides power to the car. ATP is produced in the mitochondria, which the entire cell uses as energy.

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

basically any cell kinda

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. but what im looking for is what cell STRUCTURES, as in, what other parts of the cell

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

The only thing the Mitochondria does is Provide Energy Maybe sites of the Cellular Respiration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, I mean, does Mitochondria work with vacuoles or chloroplasts or anything like that? Cell wall?

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

Hmm not that i know of sorry.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's alright. thank you for taking the time to try and help

OpenStudy (preetha):

Splatterpaint, I looked a fair bit and I can't find any explicit reference to other organelles that it works with. It has its own DNA and even makes its own proteins. So I would say that it has the ability to stand alone. Having said that, it would work with choloroplasts in the energy cycle and it releases ATP into the cell during respiration so it works to provide energy for all the cellular processes. Help me understand your question better.

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

Yeah your right Pereetha It dosent really have any other interaction with any other cell besides providing ATP energgy

OpenStudy (preetha):

Geometry hater means, it does not have any other interaction with other cell organelles in the cell.

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

yeah thanks for rephrasing that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you both. I'm in Biology and my teacher is horrid. We're doing a project assigned a part of a cell and researching it and the question specifically states, "Determine what other cell structures YOUR (mitochondria) cell structure works with."

OpenStudy (wondermath):

Your mitochondria works with the chloroplast, because cellular respiration and photosynthesis are coupled reactions. The chloroplasts performs photosynthesis, which produces oxygen and sugar, and the mitochondria uses the oxygen and sugar to produce water and carbon dioxide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to clear this up. the main structures the mitochondrium works with is the golgi apparatus. not all mitochondria proteins are actually produced there, in the process of evolution, many proteins were outsourced and are now encoded in the nucleus. thus, the golgi also provides proteins for the mitochondrium. furthermore, the cytosol (which I see also as an organelle) also works with the mitochondrium. parts of the krebs cycle happen there, other parts in the mitochondrium.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and, in plants, the chloroplasts, of course. wondermath is right about that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what? I'm SO confused!
