The job market is merit-based, meaning that you are rewarded more for the more knowledge that you bring to the table.

I would also suggest that they likely have better problem solving skills and strategies and have a better perspective of the "big picture" which both lead to more creative problem solving. Employers want people who are able to effectively deal with situations that are outside the box, and able to find solutions that are consistent with the goals of the organization.

It has nothing to do with most of what you read above really. It all comes down to simple economics, supply and demand. There are only so many seven foot tall humans with a jump shot, so if you happen to be born this way, you make millions a year. If it is more difficult to get education and training, or that education and training is in demand, meaning it can result in you getting someone or a group of people to willingly give you money in exchange for something that is relatively hard to find elsewhere, then you will likely have a more desirable job. If it was about merit or higher order moral values than teachers, firemen and poets might make millions. Trust me they dont. STUDY ECONOMICS. you wont regret it.
