Possible meaning to the [] in: J is a subset of [s]
what's the possible meaning for the []?
What do you know about s?
s is a statistical security parameter
maybe it could mean indices?
I think I might go with that
Oh indices=indexes..?
yes i think it could mean that
It took me few seconds to figure that out :D
Could it mean the least integer function?
that would mean J is a subset of just an integer
so i don't think that is what it means
let me show you what i'm looking at
are you interested?
I am!
page 16
well its on other pages
[s] if we choose s=4, then [4] means...
I wonder if J is a subset of [4], then J is a subset of {1,2,3,4}
maybe [4]={1,2,3,4}
I was thinking the same thing too. We know for sure that for s=4, [s] has at least 2 members.
well J has s/2 elements and I think J can take on any two values of that set
since it says |J|=2
thanks so much i was getting lost alittle
But how come the writer didn't define what it means?! Well, J has at s/2 elements and it's a subset of [s], and therefore [s] has to have at least s/2 elements. Right?
ok yes you are right
lol
Oh I found it :D
Read P.6.
Figure 3.1
i thought i read something about indices somewhere
thanks for taking your time to look and helping me
You're welcome!
I just searched [s], and it's mentioned only 8 times.
Are you a student?
Yes.
Are you?
So I guess you are going for a math degree. Yes I'm a student.
Why did you assume that, because of my nickname?
yes
and also you are helping people in the math section
Yeah, most likely math.
but with those premises i made a conclusion about you
I can assume you're a senior or a grad math student maybe?
I don't want to tell you where I'm at in math I feel like I'm totally dumb
Lol! You're not, but that's okay. You don't have to tell me.
I'm trying to get my phd
i got my bachelors and masters in math
i'm doing research in cryptography now
Wow, this is awesome! I'll consider myself as your student then.
lol
Can I?
too much pressure
You have a strange nickname though :P
Are you currently a lecturer at a college or something?
thats because i made it up It was suppose to be a name for my future daughter whenever i have children
I teach full time at a college
A name of your daughter?!! I can't even read it :P
I haven't taught any of the upper classes. I'm scared of those
I hope you will have your daughter and name her whatever you want... What courses do you usually teach?
Cal 2, Cal 1, Trig, Algebra
Oh I see.
I might start teaching more stuff once i get my phd I will have more time to review for those upper lever classes once the phd thing is out of the way
I do want to teach number theory and discrete math.
Yeah. In my school only those who have a PhD can give lectures. Lecturer with only a master degree can give recitations or labs maybe.
I'm not implying that you shouldn't give lectures, I wouldn't dare :D
I do give presentations but only to my advisor and his other students
Is that consider lecturing?
I don't know. And wow you want to teach number theory, this is great. You know better than I do that it's probably one of the most difficult courses in the undergrad level. Good luck!
I don't want to teach differential equations I just think I'm more of an algebra person than a calculus person
Number theory is different than both I guess? It requires more logic and proofs than either calculus or algebra does. Course that require more logical and mathematical reasoning and proofs are the hardest to teach in my opinion.
