what are partial fractions used for in real life?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solving integrals for one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Integral, Inverse laplace transform

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, like in real life

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chopping wood

OpenStudy (anonymous):

integrals certinly are used in real life

OpenStudy (across):

As Imran said, they're very important when dealing with inverse Laplace transforms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could say instead they are useful for finding volumes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really?

OpenStudy (across):

Real life? Well, Laplace transforms are a means to simplify differential equations, which have helped us put man on the moon and explain other phenomena. It doesn't get any more "real life" than that. xd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes one thing an integral does is find volumes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

horay for space travel!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yayz! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To model shock system (abrupt and large, say car accident, punch ) we have to use dirac delta function which requires laplace transforms which requires partial fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i see

OpenStudy (across):

In electronics, extensive use of the unit-step function is made to model switches and the likes. Those can only be found using Laplace transforms.

thx a lot u guys!
