I got as far as 444/16. How do I simplify that in inches?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You times the first fraction by 12, right? After that, you got 444/16? THen you can divide 444 by 16 and then find the remainder and place it over 16 to get a proper fraction.

Is it 27.75 or 27 and 3/4" wide?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It's either. They're both correct, but the second option is better for your case.

I think I am finally starting to get the hang of this! Gets confusing! Thanks millions!

Instructor says answer is wrong? Now I'm lost again. It says: A sidewalk is built 12 bricks wide by laying each brick side by side. How many inches wide is the sidewalk if each brick measures 2 15/16" wide?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
75/4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
75/4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you times 2 15/16 by 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):
I mean 111
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, it's 108 3/4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
me too. then it reduces how?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You divide 111 by 4, and that is 108. The remainder is 3/4
