Is anyone else excited about MIT's announcement concerning their new certificate program starting in the spring?
I am, I'm just curious what courses they are going to start out with.
im stoked. However I realize that I seriously need to brush up on linear algebra and relearn calculus very very soon.
I am waiting badly to start; I just want to do graduation in physics from this. I need help from this study group to complete this.
I don't know what classes they will be offering.. All I can say is that I can't wait!! I'm infatuated with anything science related, ESPECIALLY Nuclear science. SO I hope the classes they decide to offer can help me later on down the road when I go back to school for nuclear technology/science. :)
Folks, you don't have to wait to start learning. The only new elements will be controlled exams and a certificate that you demonstrated mastery of the course materials. The lectures and assignments are already out there. Keep in mind that MIT will protect their brand. As the official Q&A implied, an important part of MIT's finished human product (graduate) is the highly selective admissions process. An MITx certificate will be clearly distinct from an MIT degree or even MIT course credit. I also doubt whether certificate holders will get access to MIT recruiting channels, though MITx might create a parallel process down the road. Neither MIT nor the future employers want a 45-year-old laid-off worker with a new 3.9 GPA in software engineering asking why a major corporation preferred to interview 21-year-olds with a 3.5 GPA and little or no work experience.
