State Whether each percent of change is a percent of increase or a percent of decrease. Then find each percent of change. Round to the nearest whole percent. original: 10 new: 25 We know it is a increase, but how do we get the percent?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

if something goes from 1 to 2 is this not a 100% increase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, yes. We think so.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

and if it goes from 1 to 3 that is a 200% increase...

OpenStudy (turingtest):

so the formula is (percent change)=(difference in the number)/(original number) times 100

myininaya (myininaya):

because 1=100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so... *thinks* If we do, 25-10 Then divide 10 and times that by 100 we would get our answer? We got 150

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yes that seems right :)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

150% increase

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! ^^ Just one more thing. Would we do the same formula for a decrease too?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yes, just note that in a decrease the numerator will be negative try it on changing 4 to 2 (2-4)/4X100=(-2/4)X100=-50% so if you get a negative answer that means "decrease"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That sounds right. Thank you very much ^^!

OpenStudy (turingtest):

very welcome
