OpenStudy (ksaimouli):

A box of cereal contains 1 of 5 different prizes. A simulation was conducted to predict how many boxes of cereal must be bought in order to get all 5 prizes. The results of 30 trials are shown in the stem-and-leaf plot below. Based on the results of the simulation, what is the total number of people out of 150 who would need to buy less than 10 boxes of cereal to get all 5 prizes? 3 5 15 30 previous item

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15 3 out of the 30 trials were successful in less than boxes; thus, 15 out of 150 trials seems reasonable.

OpenStudy (ksaimouli):

how do u know 3 out f 30 are sucessful

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i agree with meverett by looking at the stem and leaf plot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the stem-and-leaf plot. Look at the first row, since the other rows are for 10-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 How many numbers in the first row?

OpenStudy (ksaimouli):

what is stema nd leaf plot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is one in the question; here is another one below 0 | 5 8 9 1 | 3 5 6 7 8 2 | 1 1 2 2 3 4 3 | 1 2 4 4 7 8 8 4 | 0 2 6 7 8 8 8 9 9

OpenStudy (ksaimouli):

so how u got 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you okay with 3 out of 30? Now if we have 150 trials, then 150 / 30 = 5 Thus 3 x 5 = 15 In other words, 3 out of 30 is equal to 15 out of 150
