You're given a quadratic equation; every quadratic equation has a solution... except! If your teacher is considering answers in the complex plane to be "non-existent solutions." Do you know the quadratic formula?

This is what i got from the last person that helped me. x2+18x−4=0 x2+18x=4 (x+9)2=4+81=85 x+9=±√85 x=−9±√85

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Your answer is correct, but that's not what you put in the answer-box! The -9 does not seem to apply to the second root. I would put something like:\[-9+\sqrt{85}, \ -9-\sqrt{85}\]
