i have installed ubuntu along with windows... but i have allotted only 5 gb for ubuntu, can i expand the memory space for ubuntu??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you can, how? i don't know :D try asking it in askubuntu, com or googling

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Yes you can you just need to resize your partitions. I have done this using Gparted, but Windows 7 has a pretty good disk management program that might work (I haven't tried it yet). You want to shrink your Window partition first and then reclaim the space to your Ubuntu partition.

If you have installed Ubuntu inside windows: You can't really expand the size of a wubi installation (windows file) once you have installed it but you can move parts of the installation onto virtual disks. This link might help you: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#How%20do%20I%20resize%20the%20virtual%20 disks?

Assuming you're referring to storage space, you should use GParted. Using Windows disk partition manager as jagatuba mentioned may screw up data on the EXT3/4 partition because it doesn't know how to deal with them. GParted can deal properly with EXT3/4 partitions and grow and shrink them.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Yeah I usually use Gparted. I only mentioned Windows 7 Disk manager because it at least recognizes my ext3 part. Earlier versions the ext parts don't even show up. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but I will before long. :)
