For the past 20 years, the population of the invasive Asian Carp in the Mississippi River has skyrocketed while populations of native species have declined. Which of the following conclusions provides the best explanation for this phenomenon? a. The carp out-competed the native species for food and space. b. The food sources preferred by the carp increased. c. The native species contracted a virus that the carp were immune to. d. The native species migrated to new areas, while the carp remained.

i think its a, what about u?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i ll go for D.. but they are saying carp population increased that force mt to think abu B

OpenStudy (blues):

I think it's A. The carp initially out competed the native species. The native species might well have migrated to a new area - but only under competitive pressure in their native, and presumably ideal, environment.

I would actually disagree because in C, it says that the natives contracted a virus, which the carp are immune to. This is basically in the lesson when it says that diseases are sometimes brought due to invasive-species.
