Massive Facebook and Twitter Buttons...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... are all well and good and I understand why they've been made so big (one of the developers was chatting about it in the maths group, I think), buuuut... is it possible to make it so that they're displayed by default, but we can select a setting in our profile to hide them for those who just aren't interested?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand why they have to be so big. but if i could get rid of them i would. does any one really twitter these questions? jeez! just make them smaller please so they match everything else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was explained that they're big so people who may be interested notice them; thus if they aren't being used, the developers can put it down simply to nobody cares about sharing stuff, rather than it being a possibility of just nobody noticing it. So I get that. But they are a tad irksome, and being able to hide them would be better than all Christmases coming at one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so I would agree with satellite73.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

“does any one really twitter these questions? jeez!” Yes.

OpenStudy (darthsid):

We hear you guys. We are taking your feedback into consideration. We'd still like to evaluate the vastly silent majority, and the only way we can do that is to see numbers over a few days.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Actually it's interesting, I made a post about this on Hacker News just the other day: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3437887 “… there's a pronounced tendency in human nature to assume that because we don't like something no one does, or because something isn't good for us it isn't good for anyone (or, in reverse, because something is good for us it must be good for everyone). I think it's important to take a step back when we make pronouncements like this and consider whether we're actually right in thinking that or not…” Numbers, folks. That's what we're looking for. We've had significantly more tweets and Facebook shares since these buttons were introduced, which is why I say “yes” so vehemently to the question of whether anyone would “twitter” these questions. Yes, people post them to twitter, yes, people post them to Facebook. Just because you don't like them or use them doesn't mean no one does, and we need to see how many people do or want to as we consider the best way to present that option.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not assuming anybody doesn't like it or saying they should be removed, at all. Please re-read my original post. My suggestion is for those who DON'T like it - of whom there are certainly some, I don't know what percentage but at least some - could there be an option to hide them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*"not assuming everybody doesn't like it"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once again I agree with similar suggestion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is nothing wrong with the concept of introduction of these buttons, and yes the motivation of sharing a good question should always be encouraged. But what I don't like is the Brobdingnagian size of these buttons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Btw as long as we are discussing buttons, how about introducing an edit button?

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

I'ma be straight with you... I think you're just looking for a reason to use “Brobdingnagian” ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha am I? ;-) But however, it doesn't mean that I am not disparaging the size.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

herculean, moby, blimp, brobdingnagian, colossal, cyclopean, elephantine, enormous, gargantuan, giant, gross, huge, immense, jumbo, mammoth, massive, monster, monstrous, prodigious, stupendous, super-colossal, titan, tremendous, vast, whopping
