an important message for moderators listen 75% of questions hea belong to equation of line and inquality we shud post a link hea to a gud lecture or a video so for those who asking it again and again must first view it , and it is doing no good to OS, cause people throw their homework at us ,,, rather than learn sumthing from hea, this is abusive use. Hence we shud all look at this problem seriously for better future of Open Study, regards, Wasiq, JamesJ
Whose making these videos or lectures?
Also, possibly just a tab or something at the top linking to videos.
NOTTIM these are availabile on Youtube, khan academy,n diff places, n we can make r own even
But realize: why do people come to OS instead of Khan's Academy?
prealgebra i bet that short video of 5 mins i always better than an hour lecture in a classroom
notim they cum because they cant discuss their answer whether it is right or not, they cant get confirmation
like u know how long wud it take to show making line equation, and sample problem in end
Tell them to go to wolfram alpha instead of wasting our time here.
kainui i will give u questions that wolfram wudnt solve, may i , then what wud u do?
Really, if they were going to sit and watch something, they would have done so in class already, or tried reading thru the textbook and using that a basis.
pre algebra u r new to OS, n i bet u ll b fed up by constantlt solving the same type of questions daily, n Open study image is going to decline, as it will becume famous in getting homeworks done
I would stop caring about them and ignore them. I'm only concerned with helping people interested in learning.
That population is like, 35% of the overall total.
kainui bt still there are many who will help those dumb for medals
I just come here for giggles. And when my main tutoring site is down.
sum ppl will help them cox they post real easy ques, like hardly takes around 30 sec to solve those, hence a person will think a medal or two in thirty sec is not a bad deal
Your idea is great, wasiqss. ilc.org does the same kind of thing. But OS is a peer-to-peer site.
pre algebra i have seen u helpin these types of people
Tsh. I am those type of people.
-Videos -Study Guides -Formula sheets -Glossary
pasting a direct link from OS to these videos and to those that NOTtim mentioned
Lol
Guilt-tripping the careless.
But it may help if OS let us see what work they've done already right from the start. When I do my questions here, I have to take a while to write down what I did so far.
hahaha NOtim u have still time to work on and learn sumthing i promise this site has lot to offer and ppl hear are very gud
And some speed-typer whips something up before I say antyhing.
I think we've reached the conclusion of this. Simply, a easier method for users to state what they did, but not include it in the question to make it look bulky, nor in the comments, where the comment may be lost.
While videos may work, it does require work, and possibly constant attention from a group of volunteers. I suggest making a Google Sites Page, linking OS to that, and within the Google Sites page, post links according to subject.
That also requires work, but not on such a grand scale.
I'm not very happy that you signed this message with my name. I never agreed to that and I certainly never saw this wording (let alone spelling) before you posted it. That being said, I am directionally in agreement.
Directionally?
Imagine someone else using my name.

First I'll address your issue of "abuse": You guys keep bringing up this issue and we keep giving you the same response. This is not considered abuse according to the OpenStudy Code of Conduct. As such, we're not going to take moderator action against these users. The only way this works is if the community members encourage those users to become better askers. We are looking at this concern seriously, and I'm personally quite a bit annoyed at the *continued* insinuation that we aren't. If you really want to do something helpful about this, then encourage those members to be better askers. Draw information out of them. Provide real suggestions about how we can encourage better behavior. With regard to requiring people to view videos, that's now how we operate. Plain and simple. The value of OpenStudy is in personal interaction with someone who knows the material. So, requiring such things really isn't in line with our vision.
First of All as for the people things, i tried to make many people understand bt wut they replied is that plz lemme get my homework done, i have no interest in understand, and i know their names too. moreover, fam it is not any harm jus to modify the structure of website for its more productive use, like videos, and change is neccessary for betterment
If people do not wish to actually learn the material, that is their decision. It is your decision about whether or not you want to try and convince them to learn it. With regard to modifying the website, we disagree. We're not interested in adding any features like that at this time. We've tried it before, and it doesn't actually work as well as you think it would. Thanks for your input.
Folks, here is the deal. You are all the reason why people come to OpenStudy. NotTim has nailed the reason and most of you see it too. If you want to add a link to a Khan video that you know is good or suggest wolfram alpha - sure. But people are coming here to have an interaction. So we spend our every waking moment making sure those interactions are good, that they are helpful and that your experience as a peer teacher is good. We do not have enough people to build good content. That said, I like the idea of partnering with a good content site so that stuff comes up automatically. Next, no matter how high a fence we build, we will always have people who want someone to do their homework for them. So the trick is not to be mean to them, or rude or shut them away - but help them. If it bugs you to help them, don't! Let someone else do it. But if you do take the time, and engage with them, and help them see that there is a right way to get help, and why they should learn this - well its a win win. You have practiced some important communication, persuasion skills and they have been mentored by you. Can you do that? It is not easy. But that our challenge to all OpenStudiers. Make a difference to someone's learning and improve your own skills! And you will benefit from this as well.
