Power is corruptive, but only in so much as it is implemented by the individual. Frederick Nietzsche, for example, saw power as the fundamental force driving all living things. Power, he argued, was what we desired. To this end, once power is achieved, all one might hope to do is maximise the potential to increase their power and preserve that which they already hold. Conversely, though, Dr. Manhattan of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's "Watchmen" offers an interesting insight in that, whilst he appears to have absolute power, he is in no corrupted by his power; that is, not unless you consider pragmatism a corruption.
