Solve for y: 2/3y + 2 = 6 y = -6 y = 6 y = 5 y = -5

hero (hero):

is the y in the numerator or denominator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure

hero (hero):

I'm sorry to hear that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oookay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With 2y/3 + 2 = 6 = 2y/3 = 4 = 2y = 12 y = 6 (appears to work with y in the numerator)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

hero (hero):

babyzoe, fyi, you should know whether or not the variable is in the numerator or denominator if asked.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it a denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If 3y was in the denominator, y would equal 1/6. This was not given as a choice of answers. With 2y in the numerator, y would equal 6 which is one of the given solutions.

hero (hero):

hbrown, there was a much deeper reason why I asked whether or not the variable was in the numerator or denominator. I think you may have missed the point I was trying to make with the OP.
