Viruses replicating during the lytic cycle do not kill the host cell. true or false?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

False. Look at the attached document. The lytic cycle is basically where the virus takes over host cell protein production to make more of itself. At some point after it has assembled enough of it's parts, it bursts forth from the host cell as many more viruses. The lysogenic cycle is the one where the host cell does not get destroyed at that time. The viral DNA gets incorporated into the host cell genetic material and lies dormant. However, any number of factors can then "awaken" this virus and force it to go into the lytic cycle.

you get that out of the word "lytic". cell lysis will occur, hence: cell broken =)
