Hello, I'm trying to find a myth about Hephaestus. I have a project on it and I would appreciate any information about a good myth that doesn't include the one stated in the Odyssey. If you don't know which myth I'm talking about, it's the one when Hephaestus catches Aphrodite laying with another god and throws a chain net about them. Thanks in advance, ~tgh
Hey
If it helps, the project that I have to do is take a myth about Hephaestus and turn it into a kid's story book. It has to be eight pages with about two to three sentences per page. If anyone could find a good myth about him that could fit with what I have to do, I'd be indebted to them.
What do you know about Hephaestus so far? We're glad to help you narrow it down or figure out how to adapt it best, but it usually works out best if you've done some research first.
Hello?
Hello! OK, so, here's where we are
You need to write 20-24 sentences adapting a myth into a kids book. We have the myth of Pandora and the myth of Prometheus
What age group is this aimed at?
It doesn't have a specific age group, seeing as it's just a project for my English class. She assigned us to make a kids book.
I think I found a good list of his myths at this link. http://www.theoi.com/Olympios/HephaistosMyths.html#Birth
So a kid's book to me usually means photos. Are you concerned because you won't have enough sentences or will have too many?
I'm concerned that I will have to few sentences.
What I've been trying to do is find a myth that isn't incredibly short so that I could turn it into a kid's book... all the myths I've found so far are a few sentences at most.
Hmm, I think I might have a way of making it 24 sentences or more. If I combine the myths of his birth, his exile and his revenge on his mother I might have just what the rubric says. The only thing that I think may be a bit sketchy is that I'm combining multiple myths.
OK, well, what about talking about his birth, and describing what he's the god of?
that should be good for a few sentences. I honestly think that combining myths might be the only way to go.
Okay, I think that might be acceptable though, combining myths that is, since they all fall under the general "Hephaestus" myth right?
yep! Now, the only thing that might be iffy is keeping the exile and revenge myths kid appropriate. That's why I suggested the fire and Pandora myths. THose are pretty well known.
Yeah, I understand, but the only concern I have about those myths are their length.
I think it'd be doable, if you combined birth and prometheous and pandora. those might be more child friendly? or being cast from heaven by hera and being adopted.
I think the latter might be best. Thanks for your help, I'm going to start on the project now. If all goes well I'll get an "A". Haha! Thanks again, ~tgh
Let me know, ok? Night!
Will do, have a good night too!
OK, so what age do you want to aim it at? Kindergarteners are different from 4th graders
It doesn't say... It's just supposed to be a "kid's" story, so I'm assuming anywhere from young to around seven years old.
in greek mythology or roman
Maybe even eight or nine.
It's Hephaestus of Greek mythology.
I'm starting with Hera's birth of Hephaestus, but I don't know how I should start it to lead into everything else...
okies then he does something to do with fire
i just forgot what :P
Lol
OK, well, how about "Hera gave birth to two children, Hephaseteus and Athena. Athena was _____, ______, and beloved. Hephaseteus was strong and all that, but was crippled in one foot. Due to this physical deformity, Hera decreed her son unworthy to live on Olympus and threw him off Olympus to live on Earth" and then talk about his adoptive mother?
Thanks you! That sounds great, thanks again for the help. Once I receive my grade on the project I'll make sure to tell you what I get. :D
*thank
You're welcome! OK, I'm off to bed now, so good luck and keep me posted!
