I need help putting the answer to this problem in my hw website... it has to be without radicals. instead you use ^(1/2) and parenthesis.

hero (hero):

I believe you posted this yesterday as well.... Let's have a look

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but no right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use for superscripts in html you can look up other html math tags

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont think you do that on my hw site

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just ( ) and / and ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you have access to the code you can use x2 to raise x to the 2nd power for example

hero (hero):

are you sure you can't approximate the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im using a whole new site for this math class

hero (hero):

cyster might be on the right track with squaring both sides...let's see what this leads to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would the answer look like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

62 + 82 / 14 2 ???

hero (hero):

Nope, it doesn't get us anywhere. By the way, how do you know that x has to be a whole number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea

hero (hero):

Approximate x I get: \[x = \frac{\sqrt{7}(\sqrt{3}+2)}{7}\] which approximates to x = 1.41

hero (hero):

Try that and see what happens

hero (hero):

Can you input fractions and roots? If you can, do that instead.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 1.41 is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get to the step you have above?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you there?

hero (hero):

algebraic steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you show me?

hero (hero):

vyew?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

hero (hero):

k, one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ive been getting the wrong answer to this prob too. I think its because of the way Im putting it in the website though...
